Get the LOLdown
Welcome to The LOLdown -- your inside look at Dawn Xanklin Comedy. The LOLdown is a more real way to connect, instead of chasing “likes” and algorithms. I want to reach the people who care most about my shows and stories. This newsletter lets me do that — no filters, no gatekeepers, just laughs and updates that matter.

March Magic
In March 2025, the In the Black stand-up comedy show sold out the Shenkman Arts Centre with more than 140 seats—my biggest show production yet. I'm deeply grateful for the financial support of the ARTicipate grant.

Latest work
I’ve been a stand-up comedian since 2017 and a storyteller since 2020, even serving on the Board of Directors for Ottawa Storytellers from 2020 to 2022. In July, I took a creative risk by combining both for the first time in a show called RECLAIMED!—and our small pilot sold out. The livestream had a few bumps, but the night was a success in every way that mattered.

Fringe. Tour. Rise.
I want to use this newsletter to introduce you to some of the amazing people I meet through comedy. First up is Rose-Ingrid Benjamin. She’s an inspiring artist whose work I can’t wait for you to discover — you’ve probably already experienced her work.

Help Fuel the Funny
Last year, I applied for grants for the first time — and I won most of them. The shows I produced with that support went beyond what I ever imagined. This year feels different: fewer grants are available, and the mood is “hurry up and wait,” like we’re all holding our breath while cutting back. For now, I can cover a lot myself, but who knows what the future will bring. If you’ve enjoyed a show, I’d be grateful for your support: tip if you can, share these updates, or tell me what’s resonating with you.
