ADHD Tests (And Why I Finally Took One)

I decided to get tested for ADHD. For years, people have said I do a lot. And it’s true. I produce shows, write jokes, perform, work a day job, and take care of my family. I thought I managed it all because I love what I do. I also thought my struggles were just part of my personality. Then I learned more about ADHD.

Off the rails (Mar 26, two shows)

Catch me this Thursday, March 26, at Off the Rails Comedy at Clocktower Westboro (418 Richmond Rd, Ottawa). This is a show where comedians talk about their visible or invisible disabilities. I’ll be testing fresh jokes inspired by my recent experience getting assessed for ADHD.

There are two chances to join the fun: an early show and a late show. Use code DAWN when you buy your tickets to get 5% off. If you’re a student or a person with a disability, message me directly — there may be better discounts available for you.

(Note: This is an accessible venue with accessible washrooms on premises. No sign language interpretation at this event.)

I’ve been a stand-up comedian since 2017 and a storyteller since 2020, even serving on the Board of Directors for Ottawa Storytellers from 2020 to 2022. In July, I took a creative risk by combining both for the first time in a show called RECLAIMED!—and our small pilot sold out. The livestream had a few bumps, but the night was a success in every way that mattered.

Help Fuel the Funny

Last year, I applied for grants for the first time — and I won most of them. The shows I produced with that support went beyond what I ever imagined. This year feels different: fewer grants are available, and the mood is “hurry up and wait,” like we’re all holding our breath while cutting back. For now, I can cover a lot myself, but who knows what the future will bring. If you’ve enjoyed a show, I’d be grateful for your support: tip if you can, share these updates, or tell me what’s resonating with you.
