Why This Show Matters
This year’s show features comedians with connections to places east of Ottawa, including the Maritimes. A portion of proceeds will be donated to one or more charities selected by the performers. The 2026 edition has received some funding from CANCOM, a federally registered not-for-profit that supports independent artist ownership of comedy content. Of the 15 projects CANCOM funded across the country, In the Black 2.0 is the only comedy project funded in Ottawa.
About the Producer
Hello and welcome! If you’re new here, I’m an Ottawa-based performer who does stand-up comedy as “Dawn Xanklin.” I’ve been a stand-up comic for 9 years. Since 2022, I’ve also become a producer, creating stand-up comedy and storytelling shows that explore identity and community. The first grant I received was the ARTicipate grant (2024), which helped fund the largest stand-up comedy show of my career in 2025: In the Black. That show explored what it’s like to be Black in Canada. Last year’s edition featured comedians with connections to places west of Ottawa and was performed to a sold-out audience.
