How it started

  • We are Canadian

In the 2020 pandemic, I joined virtual writing groups with Black comedians to sharpen my material and stay connected. Some were surprised to meet a Black comic from Canada and kept asking: “What’s it like to be Black in Canada?” Great question. So I wrote about it… then I wondered what it’s like to be Black in different parts of the country. (Poster design: @boyalmighty)

  • The Big Launch

In 2024, I received my first performance-related grants, including the ARTicipate Award. The rest was self-funded and funded by vendor contributions. I hired an an event planning company that sourced a social media coordinator, a graphic designer, videographer, photographer, and DJ. (Original photo by: @TruthPix)

  • Sold-out theatre show

We moved 160 paid and complementary tickets and our audience sold out our first show at the Richcraft Theatre. Congratulations to the crew and to the first In the Black lineup that featured: Reggie Cash, enoje Ozjam, Sarah St-Fleur, Adora Nwofor, and George Rivard. (Photo by: @mcamasuccess)
